JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Handyman/Decorator
Location: Fawdon: 8.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday
Duration: Full Time Initially 6 months
Job Purpose: Responsible for general internal building repairs, making good, painting and decorating, assembling furniture
Key Job Tasks & Responsibilities
Specific Duties:
· Surface Preparation: Removing old wallpaper/paint, stripping surfaces, cleaning, sanding, and filling holes or cracks to ensure a smooth finish.
· Surface Covering Application: Applying coats of paint, varnish, stains, and glazes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
· Wallpapering: Hanging wallpaper and other wall coverings.
· Material Calculation & Selection: Estimating, ordering, and selecting the appropriate types of paint, wallpaper, and materials for the job.
· Precision Work: Mixing paint to achieve specific shades, matching colors, and performing detailed decorative work.
· Site Protection: Laying dust sheets and protecting surrounding areas.
· External Work: Painting or treating exterior surfaces like doors, windows, and fences.
· Cleanup: Cleaning tools, equipment, and the work area after project completion.
· Furniture Assembly- Building Flatpack furniture and assemble furniture to a high standard..
Additional Responsibilities
· Client Consultation: Discussing requirements, colour schemes, and finishes with employer.
· Safety Adherence: Following health and safety regulations, such as proper ventilation and hazardous material handling.
· Project Management: Managing timelines and, for self-employed professionals, estimating project costs.
Personal Specification Essential Desirable
· Background/experience Knowledge of materials and working practices as they relate to buildings.
· Reasonable amount of experience in a similar ‘Handyman’ type role in a general building and/or Estate related environment.
· Ability to undertake repairs to plaster moulding.
· Ability to paint and decorate to a good standard.
Skills
· Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to people of all levels.
· Good organisational skills and time management skills.
· Personal qualities Ability to work flexibly and to carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the post as may be required from time to time.
· Ability to operate effectively as part of a small team and get on with people of all levels.
