Job Title: Painter / Maintenance Operative
Location: Fawdon
Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Duration: Full time – initially 6 months (with potential to extend)
Pay: £15p/h
Job Purpose
The role is primarily focused on painting and decorating, supporting the upkeep and presentation of internal environments within a cleanroom production facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for high‑quality surface preparation and painting work, along with minor maintenance and furniture assembly as required.
Experience within a production or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred due to the standards and procedures involved.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties (Predominantly Painting)
Surface Preparation:
Preparing walls and surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling holes or cracks, and making good to ensure a high‑quality finish.
Painting & Decorating:
Applying paint, varnish, stains, and finishes using brushes and rollers to achieve a consistent, professional standard.
Finishing & Detail Work:
Mixing paints, matching colours, and completing detailed decorative tasks where required.
Site Protection:
Protecting floors, fixtures, and surrounding areas using dust sheets and coverings.
Cleanroom Compliance:
Working within a cleanroom environment, adhering to strict cleanliness and hygiene procedures, including wearing hair nets, snoods, and white overalls at all times.
Cleanup:
Cleaning tools, equipment, and ensuring work areas are left clean and compliant with cleanroom standards.
Secondary Duties
Furniture Assembly:
Building and assembling flat‑pack furniture to a high standard when required.
Minor Internal Repairs:
Carrying out basic making‑good tasks to support painting activities.
Health, Safety & Quality
Adhering to all Health & Safety regulations, COSHH requirements, and cleanroom procedures.
Maintaining high standards of workmanship appropriate to a controlled production environment.
Personal Specification
Essential
Proven experience in painting and decorating to a good, consistent standard.
Experience working in a production, manufacturing, or regulated environment.
Ability to follow procedures and work to strict cleanliness standards.
Good attention to detail and pride in high‑quality workmanship.
Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
Desirable
Background in general maintenance, estates, or handyman‑type roles.
Experience of working in cleanrooms or similar controlled environments.
Ability to carry out minor repairs alongside decorating tasks.
Skills & Personal Qualities
Good communication skills, able to liaise with colleagues and supervisors.
Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
Flexible, reliable, and willing to undertake reasonable additional duties as required.
