Site Manager

Role Purpose

Our Client is looking to appoint an experienced Site Manager to take full operational responsibility for the safe, profitable and successful delivery of construction projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.

The Site Manager will be responsible for ensuring programme milestones, contractual obligations, quality standards, health & safety requirements and financial targets are achieved.

The role will typically report to a Project Manager or Contracts Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of construction projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Manage site-based employees, labour and subcontractors to maximise productivity and performance.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and detailed construction programmes aligned with overall project objectives.
  • Monitor progress against programme and take appropriate action where delays or issues are identified.
  • Monitor project costs, variations, labour expenditure and site resource utilisation.
  • Act as the primary operational point of contact for clients, consultants, subcontractors and key project stakeholders.
  • Manage site quality processes and ensure compliance with the Client's Quality, Environmental and Safety Management requirements.
  • Identify and manage project risks, implementing effective mitigation measures to protect programme, quality and profitability.
  • Coordinate procurement requirements to ensure materials, equipment and plant are available when required.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and ensure works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and agreed programmes.
  • Manage snagging, defects and project closeout activities to ensure a high standard of completion and client satisfaction.
  • Provide accurate project reports, forecasts and progress updates to senior management.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance across the site.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and ensure site teams comply with relevant company procedures and project requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management or equivalent.
  • Black CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
  • TechCIOB status, ideally working towards MCIOB.
  • Previous experience managing the delivery of construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction programmes, sequencing and site operations.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, direct labour and site resources.
  • Good understanding of commercial considerations, including costs, variations and productivity.
  • Strong understanding of construction health & safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to identify project risks and implement practical solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive performance across site teams.

Health & Safety Training

Candidates should ideally hold current training or certification in:

  • RAMS Assessment & Implementation
  • Abrasive Wheel
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • First Aid at Work
  • Fire Marshal
  • Fire Safety Awareness
  • Safe Working at Height
  • Scaffold Awareness

Desirable Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

  • IPAF
  • PASMA
  • Building Safety Act competency/knowledge
  • MCIOB or progression towards Chartered Membership
  • Additional construction management or health & safety qualifications
