Civils Site Manager – North East

We are looking to recruit an experienced Site Manager – Civils to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and successful delivery of civil engineering works.

The role will involve overseeing site operations, coordinating labour and subcontractors, maintaining Health & Safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with client specifications, programme and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee the delivery of civil engineering projects or specific work packages.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with client specifications, drawings and project requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and liaise with Quantity Surveyors to help control and monitor costs.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, construction professionals, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and supervise site teams, construction workers and subcontractors.
  • Assist with the selection and coordination of appropriate tools, materials and site resources.
  • Carry out regular site and safety inspections.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant Health & Safety requirements and site procedures.
  • Review and maintain site reports, drawings and project documentation.
  • Maintain and enforce quality control procedures throughout the project.
  • Identify potential site issues and implement practical solutions to minimise disruption.
  • Assess and manage risks throughout the construction process.
  • Prepare progress reports and maintain accurate site records and paperwork.
  • Work closely with commercial and project teams regarding contracts, costs and project requirements.
  • Assist with securing relevant permits, licences and approvals where required.
  • Ensure site activities remain aligned with programme requirements.
  • Promote high standards of workmanship, safety and professionalism across the site.

Qualifications & Certifications

Candidates should hold:

  • SMSTS
  • Valid CSCS Manager/Professional Card
  • Scaffold Awareness
  • First Aid

Experience & Skills

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a Site Manager or similar supervisory role within civil engineering/construction.
  • Strong knowledge of building, construction and site operations.
  • Excellent leadership and people-management skills.
  • Experience coordinating construction teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety, risk management and quality control.
  • Good client-facing and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and work from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, subcontractors, clients and other construction professionals.
  • A flexible approach and ability to respond to changing project requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond positively to feedback.
  • Knowledge of construction production processes and working practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve site issues.
  • Good organisational and reporting skills.
  • Basic IT skills with the ability to use computers, tablets and handheld devices for site documentation.
